X Rays
What is it?
Discovered by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen, X-rays are waves between the wavelengths of 3 nanometers and 0.03 nanometers. They have the ability to penetrate skin and tissue but not bones which makes them useful for bone imagery. Good link for more information: http://missionscience.nasa.gov/ems/11_xrays.html |
Medical Uses
The most common use of them is fore bone imagery in which the patient is given a pulse of X-rays which go through his body except for bones and dense tissue which allow the doctors to search the inside of the patients body for complications. The process though is also risky because it has the chance to cause cancer to the patient if done to frequently For more information http://www.fda.gov/Radiation-EmittingProducts/RadiationEmittingProductsand Procedures/MedicalImaging/MedicalX-Rays/default.htm |
